All About my 2019 Life Goals!

I love thinking about goals the entire first week of the year. Everything is SO FRESH! Even though I think it’s the coldest week of the year and it apparently really likes raining right now. Well, besides the pretty terrible weather, I’m pretty excited for all the life goals I have for the new year.

I shared my reading goals for 2019 earlier this week, so if you haven’t read that post, you should definitely check that one out!

Publish Eight Times a Month

I love keeping my blogging schedule, though don’t ask me how in the world I’m able, work and do college all at once. It just happens. Along with lots of coffee.

Three Book Reviews

I’m really kind of terrible at actually publishing blog posts. And I do want to be better at writing reviews! So, my current goal is to publish three book reviews a month. Ergh, this is going to be hard. 😬

One Creative Post

I LOVE WRITING CREATIVE MINDED POSTS! It’s just actually knowing what to write about that can be very difficult. Yes, being creative can come kind of naturally. But coming up with what to say about being creative is hard. Super hard.

One Writing Post

So, in my beginning of the year survey, several of you guys mentioned that you’d like MORE writing posts. Hmm, so I am definitely going to be working on posting about writing.

But I will say, it’s hard to feel confident about posting writing posts when I’m not a published author. I know that being a writer is about writing, not how many books you have published.

But still, I’m not very confident when I talk about how to write posts because what do I actually know?Practice French 4 times a week

You might know that I had to take two years of college French. It was horrid. French and I mutually broke up this summer and I never wanted to say merci or s’il vous plait again.

But after ignoring the language for over six months, I actually want to brush up on my French. First, because I spent a lot of hours working on my French and don’t want to loose those hours. And because if I ever travel, I want to go to Paris or Montreal or North Africa and have some working French.

I know I can’t practice every day. So we’re going to try four times a week.

Drink 32 ounces of water a day

I need to drink more water. Seriously, I just need to drink water and not stop.

I’m also planning on not drinking any sort of soda AT ALL. Last year, I managed to not drink any soda for eight months!!! Then I succumbed and had a sprite and it was amazing, haha. Let’s see if I can go a whole year without touching soda.

Exercise 4 times a week

I’ve never been great at working out. I avoid the gym but this is the year that I’m not going to be scared of the gym.

Travel to 2 new places to me!

I love traveling so much! I’ve visited over 30 US states and one other country. If I had more money + time, I’d like to travel even more.

Right now, I’m saving money and working to visit two new places to me! At first, I wanted to visit two different countries, but that can be rather difficult. Instead, I’m planning on visiting two new places.

Learn to use a French Press

It might be a small secret that I really enjoy coffee. Like, a lot. I’ve normally just been making coffee with a regular coffee maker but I’d like to learn to use a French Press! I just bought one and can’t wait to try it out!

Film/Upload One Youtube Video a Week

I’ve definitely had some fun with youtube in 2018! I want to continue filming videos, growing my channel and having fun. Youtube is definitely a lot more work for me than blogging. Since it is so much work, I don’t want to get burnt out. So, I’m going to aim for only one weekly video and hope that’s not to much!

Write Two Books!

I actually wrote two books in 2018??? So weird and exciting! I have lots of ideas for books and I really want to continue writing in 2019. Since it is kind of super hard to break into publishing, the best thing I know to do is to keep writing, whether or not my books are actually published!

Edit One book!

Since I just finished writing a book, I want to really edit this book. Editing is a ton of work but really good for just making a better story. And since I can’t query the story until it’s edited, I want to focus on polishing up this story.

Query Two Books!

I’ve sent around eight query letters total. I need to write more! Even though it’s super emotionally draining and just tons of hard, hard work.

Replot my First Ever Book

During my high school years, i spent hours daydreaming about this messy, messy royal family. I mean, they were the definition of a mess.
I mapped out family trees, and wrote spiral notebooks full of backstory. There were maps and illustrations and family crests and lots and lots of details. Then, my freshman year of college, I actually wrote this gigantic story. 130,000 words of messy family drama.

12 main characters, 3 different countries and way too many subplots. It’s hilariously complicated and I still love these characters to death.

Anyway, I had an editing friend read it, and she kind of burst my very naive bubble and told me that though she liked some of the characters, the story was just too much. It was unpublishable. Very unpublishable.

That was three years ago. I put this story on my shelf and kind of left it alone. This year, I’d like to start remapping the plot. Narrowing down my main characters and figuring out what this story is really about.

Alright guys, that’s all my goals! I think that’s all my goals? Well, I have stats goals for my social media & blog & of course, I also have money goals. But SSHHH, we don’t talk about those goals. At least, not right now, haha!

But really, I’m very excited for my goals this year! I do absolutely think they are very achievable, and I can’t wait to share this upcoming year with all of you!

lets chat

Are you excited about 2019? What kind of goals do you have for this year?

Are you trying to learn a language or write a book? Are you great at exercising or drinking enough water? Any advice for querying or editing?

What kind of advice do you have for getting goals done?Β

I love all your goals! Some of your personal ones are very similar to mine. Also, the first time I tried using a French press it felt daunting but you will get the hang of it! The different in taste is remarkable, in my opinion.

I wish you luck in your novel writing endeavors. You can do it!!!

I am overwhelmed in reading all of your goals that I would never be able to accomplish. It’s ok to reduce a couple of your goals. Good that you have them, but don’t get discouraged if you can’t get it all done.

My family uses a French Press and it’s actually not as hard as it seems! And good luck with your writing – I seriously can’t wait to see Darcy’s book on my shelf

French presses are super simple, so no worries on that one!

I haven’t touched my novel since I used it as my thesis & defended it in October, but I want to try and finish it this year. And then next year I’ll edit. And the next year it’ll get published. (Ha.)

Ahh wishing you all the best for your goals this year πŸ™‚ I’m definitely with you on exercising and drinking water. I want to work towards improving my health so we’re in this together <3 I'm super excited to keep up with all your blog and writing updates too!

    Wishing you the very best!!

I understand being scared of the gym. I’ve found that if you like group classes, try that first. Also, I know my university’s gym had personal trainers. That’s one of the best ways I learned to use the equipment properly!

Drinking more water makes a HUGE difference. I rarely drink soda any more, and it just feels better.

I FINALLY surpassed 50,000 words for my 2012 WIP on New Year’s Eve, so I’m now motivated more than ever to finish the first draft and start the first round of editing. I’m also hoping to significantly increase the word count of my 2013 WIP each month. I’m also looking forward to both Camp NaNoWriMo sessions!

I’m also working to pay off significant credit card debt, and then squirrel away as much money as humanly possible!

Yay for new goals!! I also had to take French for two years and I just took my very last French final last semester, and it’s kind of sad to think about all that knowledge disappear. Maybe I should brush up a little too! 😊 Also if you ever figure out how to post eight posts a month please let me know lol! I struggle with posting twice a week, but once doesn’t quite feel right either. I hope 2019 brings lots of wonderful things and delicious coffee your way!

Aw I absolutely LOVE going back to those old series that started us off as writers. 😍I have one I’m working on (a big fantasy series…although I’m turning what 15 year old me thought was great, into, um, something more saleable now hhaha) and I also hope to write a few new drafts too. I’m wishing you all the best with your goals. they sound AMAZING. Also drinking water is good. I should drink more water. πŸ˜‚

I love reading my old writing beacuse I either want to laugh way too much or cry because it’s so bad! I mean, i think as a young writer all my characters were very emotional! Everything is so much more romanticized πŸ˜‚ But at least it shows how much we’ve all grown, right?

Aahh good luck on all your goals, Liz! Writing two books in a year is so great, I can’t even manage to write one these days πŸ˜‚ And I REALLY need to drink a lot more water too — I’m dehydrated all the time and it’s super unhealthy lmao. I feel you on the reviews thing too; I don’t really post a lot of book reviews on my blog because I prefer writing other blog posts, but I just suck at getting reviews written in general! Hope you can achieve all your goals, I’m sure you can do it! <3

Thanks, May! Good luck drinking water, idk know why it’s so hard when we literally need water SO MUCH!

I would LOVE more writing blog posts, I always enjoyed a whole lot all the ones I’ve been reading on your blog, though I understand the not feeling too confident about it because you’re not a published author, that’s why I am terrified to write about writing, too. STILL, I think you’re amazing at these kind of posts and filled with knowledge, too and I’ll eagerly be waiting for writing posts for whenever you’re ready to write them πŸ™‚ no pressure though haha, I mean, whenever you feel like it πŸ™‚
Best of luck for your French, too, here if you need any help or to practice or anything πŸ™‚
AND A MESSY ROYAL FAMILY? okay that sounds like a book I’d LOVE, really, I can’t wait to hear more about it someday ahhh:D best of luck for plotting it all <3

Ah, thanks, Marie, you’re too sweet! I’m glad you enjoy the writing posts πŸ’• Seriously, I can always read more books with messy royal families, I think that’s my forever favorite trope πŸ˜‚

  11. January 13, 2019 / 7:20 am

I’m starting small for January-March which is to publish 4 posts each month. Hopefully, after building momentum I can move to 8 posts each month! Yay to these goals! I hope you accomplish them. <3

You have such fantastic goals for this year! I wish you the best with completing them! πŸ˜€ My main goal this year is to reedit my first three books that I wrote in high school. I’m halfway through the first, but I haven’t touched the other two yet.

Drop some knowledge!
