Books, Disney & Lots of Dole Whip / June 2019 Wrap Up

Where did a whole month of days go? MELTED AWAY BY THE FLORIDA SUN, that’s where. I swear this has been the fastest month, ever.

I’m still not sure I’m ready to forgive June for being such a fast month, but if it means that fall is closer, than i guess I’ll stop being bitter. After all, this very basic white girl is ready for pumpkin spiced chai. And squash soup. Do not forget about squash soup.

Anyway, let’s stop wishing for autumn already and talk about what happened in June!

I read five entire books in June, which was a vast improvement over May’s one and only book. My June reads were a great blend of ARCs and fun reads which is great, because it means I’m starting to figure out regular life balancing again.

Is it all figured out yet???? nope, but we’re getting there..

Love from A to Z ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – This story is so cute! I really like how it’s written in duo perspectives with some well-interspersed commentary from the narrator.

Wilder Girls ⭐️⭐️ – Umm, i’m so sad, but i didn’t really like this story? It just wasn’t my style and I felt like it could have been a whole lot longer to really wrap the story up well.

We Set the Dark on Fire ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – This was a fantastic fantasy! Not only was it divers + queer, but the mythology and world building were excellent. Also, I loved all the tropes subverting going on in this story!

Ash Princess ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – This fantasy was so fun! I really got swept up into the story and really enjoyed the storytelling.

Autoboyography ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – This was so cute and a really great contemporary. Though I had a few bones to pick with the plot holes and character development, opps.

So, I haven’t actually written MORE words this month, but I’ve started outlining a plot! Yay! We love plots, give us all the plots!

But why can’t plots magically turn into 72,000 word manuscripts??? I don’t know.

As I’ve had a lot of time to think about writing this month, I actually did think. And I had several questions for myself. Do I want to keep writing my Hamilton in Space Opera fun book? or work on a slightly serious contemporary? THIS IS HARD. And I have no idea what I really want because I LOVE both ideas. Opps.

I’ve also thought A TON about self publishing. As in, do I want to sign my words over to someone else? Once you’re agented and sell your book rights, your words aren’t really yours? And do i want that??? I DON”T KNOW!

For a long while, my dream has been to see my books in places like Barnes and Nobles. But does it have to be THAT dream? Can’t I just keep writing and maybe be totally happy to own all my own books without worrying about a publisher messing it up?

This is very complicated and obviously I need to explore this idea MUCH MUCH more, but it’s something that’s been weighing on me this month.

And yes, I was definitely thinking about this long before the Taylor Swift music issue but if a women that wealthy and successful can’t own her own work, do I want to risk loosing my story to a money hungry publisher? And yes I know the music industry and publishing are different but you’re still signing over the rights to your work!

Eeek, I’m so proud of May and all her hard work on this year’s annual blogger awards!!!! I’m drafting my post and can’t wait to start reading everyone’s nominations!

Lily has been on hiatus for a long while, and she wrote an excellent post talking about anxiety and coming back to the blogging world, and I’m just so happy to read her future posts and cheer her on, and so happy she’s back!

Elise did the hard work and rewrote Game of Thrones Season 8 for all of us, and this is now canon.

I’ve had a ton of great fun this month really getting to experience Disney and getting an Orlando library card and working on some brand new story ideas. (yes, a wrap up video will be coming out soon! Stay tuned if you’re a youtube subscriber cause I think it’ll be fun!)

Quick video sneak peak more coming soooooonnnnnnn

I met Ariel, which was a HUGE highlight, because I love Ariel and I was so happy to actually meet her! Ariel was also super kind and we totally gossiped about red hair and silly sisters and redhead problems.

One of my big goals is to meet Merida, and maybe I’ll try to meet her in July? We’ll see.

Now, i have a special request, which I don’t normally do, but if you can help, it would be absolutely lovely! My blog fees are supposed to renew on July 7th but right now I’ve super struggling to come up with the funds to pay for it all.

Am I anxious about this? Yes. If you enjoy my blog content and could help pitch in a few dollars towards covering the $200 website fees, I would really appreciate it.

If you can help, here’s my paypal link.

Now that I’m done crying/begging, let me share my other fun things from this month, some really cool videos! Do I have a ton of fun filming? Yes, probably too much.

And I actually shot a booktube video PLUS disney vlogs, so SUCCESS

Also, figuring out these video cover designs has been SO FUN and apparently pastel pink is now my color.

That about sums up the whole month, already??? yes, i know, such a short wrap up post. My third year blogging anniversary is coming up and I’m going to double down and start blog hopping and writing some VERY fun posts to celebrate, so watch out!

Also, the fact that I’m blogging today instead of crying about not getting enough work hours to pay for my blog right now is HARD. But we’re going to keep on hoping. Maybe a long lost rich relative will adopt me in the next five days.

lets chat

How was your June??? Favorite books you read the last 30 days?? New recommendations? Are you already ready for fall and squash soup??? please be ready with me.

Literally everything about your blog is so pretty, and I am sooo here for it! And your little video was freaking fantastic (editing was on point!) you really looked like you were having such a fun and happy fun time in Orlando, and I’m so happy for you!! And you meeting Ariel??? ABSOLUTELY ICONIC! And I’m not trying to become a writer or anything so I haven’t really researched on publishers etc… But I think the important thing is too have creative freedom over your work. Having a major publisher is great money-wise, but writing seems to be something you’re passionate about because it brings you happiness. And money doesn’t always equal happiness. I don’t know what kind of fake philosopher rant I went on there, and I hope I didn’t add any further pressure on you. But if you ever publish a book I will definitely be the first one in line to review it 😉

Aahh, I’m so glad you’re enjoying Disney so much!! I’ve loved seeing all your Instagram updates 💗 I’m sad you didn’t like Wilder Girls as much — I’m hoping I might be different but I’ve been seeing more disappointed readers recently. I’m wishing you all the luck with figuring out whether or not you want to self publish (whatever you choose, we will always support you!), and with paying your blog fees 💕
