The Bookworm’s Ultimate Birthday Gift Guide

A little bit of self-promo, but with my birthday around the corner, I figured I should share what you really should get a bookworm for their birthday. (Actually tomorrow is my birthday! So a Friday night post instead of Saturday)

You could get them an Amazon gift card. But that’s not very creative, right? And of course, you want to be creative?

Now, some gifts can be expensive. Should I start with most expensive gifts? And then move to more realistic gift ideas? Thanks for the feedback, I think I’ll do that. 🙂

Take your bookworm on an adventure!

Now, this may not be possible. But a girl can dream right? Let’s travel to Pemberley! Or Prince Edward Island! (Will someone please take me to Prince Edward Island tomorrow?)

Yes, I can see where this may be a bit impractical. For several reasons.

A. Expensive and takes time

B. Just not happening

C. You aren’t Gandalf. I’m disappointed.

But, maybe you live by a bookish place? Lucky you! Take a bookworm there for their birthday.

One bookish place recommendation – Atlanta. If your bookworm is a Hunger Games fan, the Capitol scenes were filmed in Atlanta. If you live in the area, be sure to check out President Snow’s house!

You don’t have to include airfare or a hotel price in this gift. But what bookworm doesn’t want to go to book con?

If you’re as wealthy as Mr. Darcy, bless your friend. Send them to book con. Help them find their favorite authors and get all the signatures and ARCs.

(Also, remember your bookworm might need money for an airplane with that book con ticket? As I said, rich as Darcy)

Ahem, if you’re as rich as every other kid in YA books, subscription boxes are the PERFECT gift. Whether it’s a one month surprise, or a year long subscription, bookworms love book boxes!

Ok, there may be a few that don’t. But the vast majority of us really, really like book boxes. Some of my favorites are Owlcrate, LitJoy Crate, & Fairyloot.

Why buy one book when you can give your bookworm the ENTIRE series? A boxed set of Harry Potter – the cool ones with the spines that make Hogwarts castle???

Ok, this is a tad expensive. So maybe a cheaper series? Like the Grisha Trilogy or Six of Crows duology.

Look at this gorgeous Prisoner of Azkaban illustrated edition!

Perhaps your bookworm has all the book series they could ever want. Don’t worry! Publishers do this nifty thing where they publish anniversary editions.
Now, we’re not obligated to buy them. But what bookworm isn’t craving a speciality edition?

Satisfy the craving. Gift an anniversary edition. (Oh, look Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets anniversary edition is being released on my birthday. What a coincidence???)

Some of my favorite bookish jewelry.

If your bookworm is overflowing with books, aka they have NO MORE room on their bookshelf, Etsy has you covered.
You can get jewelry from literally any fandom. And make your bookworm very, very happy.

Also, bookmarks are great too. Especially the magnetic character bookworms? Or bookish art prints?

Another cool thing – most of the shops selling these neat items are small businesses! I think it’s so neat that we can support other bookworms and purchase really neat book items! Now, if only shipping weren’t so expensive.

Running late to the party? Food always works.

// My True Oreos Story //

I was randomly scrolling through twitter and saw this sponsored tweet from Oreo. BTW, sponsored tweets are the worst.

Which way do you dunk your milk? All the way, just a little bit, or not at all?

Now, I hadn’t had Oreos in a very, very long time. And that little tweet made me crave them SO MUCH. Good job, Oreos.

And just my luck someone was going to the dollar store & asked me if I wanted anything? WOW. I am so lucky.
Because I got an entire 3 row package of Oreos. I didn’t have any milk to dunk them in, so I dunked them in coffee. That was AMAZING.

I might have eaten half the package in one sitting. because, craving. And OREOS. DUNKED in COFEEE. BLISS. Just so yummy.

Alright, guys, I’ve officially shared a bunch of different birthday gift ideas. And a random story about Oreos. Maybe all these ideas will be inspiring?

I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend! I’m going to eat Chinese Food and go to a Harry Potter Celebration for the 20th anniversary of the Chamber of Secrets. And I’m most likely cosplaying as Ginny Weasley, so happiness! Come join my Quidditch Team!

lets chat

What would be your perfect bookish birthday gift? Have you gone to Book Con?

Do you own any special book editions? Any cool complete book sets?

How do you dunk your oreos?
If you could cosplay anyone, who would you cosplay?

I would love tickets to Book Con – they never come to Chicago, and it’s a bit disappointing. This whole list is so perfect! This should be the official guide to Bibliophile Gift Buying.

…if you have a rich friendsignificant other, that is XD

I always asked my friends for books for my birthday but they gave me clothes instead. 🤦‍♀️

I know! All I really want is book, but I suppose clothes are ok, too 😂

HAPPY (late) BIRTHDAY!! I hope the Chinese food was delicious and the celebration was amazing. 🙂
These are very good ideas! A bookish adventure sounds amazing.
What, dunking Oreos in coffee?? Okay, I don’t even like coffee but I still can’t believe that’s not an actual thing. Yet.
I have not gone to Book Con, but there is a bookish convention where I live in a few months!
Oooh, who would I cosplay? That’s tough. Probably Atticus Finch. I would wear a suit and glasses and everything!

    • Elizabeth Hunter February 5, 2018 / 6:27 pm

Thanks so much Annie! It was a great day & of course, I loved going out for Chinese.
I bet you’d make a great Atticus! That’s actually a really cool idea!
