Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! It’s officially December which means I’m officially behind on sharing what happened in November. And it was a good month, so I’m excited to chat about the last 30 days or so.
Some major highlights – Epcot Food and Wine Festival, the Jonas Brothers and Frozen 2. Oh, and books??? And maybe some editing???
Red Skies Falling ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I thought this was a compelling sequel to Black Wings Beating. The twins are both such rounded characters with their own growth and story, alongside more interesting world building. I’m kind of nervous about the third book because this ended with a nerve-wracking cliffhanger.
Unfollow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh my goodness! i piced up this book on a whim at the library and I’m so glad i did! It’s the memoir from Megan Phelps-Roper, who grew up in westboro bapstist church, infamous for bigotry and protesting. Megan left when she was around 25 and her story is gripping.
Jackpot ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not my favorite Nic Stone book but this was still a fun read. I just never felt that close to the characters, almost like the writing distanced the reader? I don’t know, it just wasn’t THAT five star read for me.
The Red Scrolls of Magic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this book since I haven’t read The Mortal Instruments. But it was such a sweet and adventerous read with Magnus and Alec, easily the best relationship in the whole original Cassandra Clare series.
Clockwork Angel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Yes, I read two Clare books this month because I decided to reread the Infernal Devices. And I loved it, maybe even more than the first time. Wow, I love all the Dickens symbolism. And Will and Jem and Tessa. 😍
When Dimple Met Rishi ⭐️⭐️ I’m truly sad to say that this book was just a major disappointment. It felt very tropey and the coding elements were a huge let down.
Finding my Voice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a great memoir from a remarkable person. Read this for inside stores from the Obama White House, keep reading because Valerie Jarret is insightful. Also, I miss the aforementioned Obama White House.
Village of Secrets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of those books you just can’t put down. Especially after the halfway point when the stakes are so high. At one point three of the historical figures were arrested by the Gestapo, and my stomach literally turned. Up to that point, you knew this narrative about the French Resistance hiding children had tragic stories but I wasn’t prepared to grieve the loss of these brave souls.
Okay there were some great blog posts and interesting online discussions this month. My bookmarks tab is full of posts I tabbed to share.
Elise wrote a fantastic discussion on why she loves the romance of Red, White and Royal Blue. And basically, I agree with every word in her post.
And Marie reached five years of book blogging, congrats!!! Marie is such a sweet blogger and her post answering questions is really fun. Also, if you’re not following her, you should!
And my kindred spirit wrote one of my favorite reviews of the month, Emma’s Unpopular Opinions book reviews. Now i might disagree about her Cruel Prince opinions, but 10/10 agree with Nevernight and Jack the Ripper thoughts.
And I know it’s December but Olivia ended her hiatus and all is right in the world now!
Now I read a lot of Atlantic articles this month? Weirdly. Anyway this interview with theologian N.T Wright was fascinating to me. Mainly because I used his books on the new and old testament in my freshman college bible classes. And now he’s talking about Americans and Trump and world wide religious things. So! Fascinating.
And my inner nerd LOVED this debate between a Vox editor and National Review editor about American Nationalism. I also think it’s spineless to acknowledge how detrimental this presidency is to American foreign policy and still insist socialist ideas and democratic candidates are worse.
I have thoughts, lots of thoughts about this article on Wealth and experience disney. Number one, I am annoyed that this man who paid $300 an hour for a VIP disney land tour has the audacity to complain that this isn’t what Walt wanted. YOU PAID FOR IT. Ughhh. Maybe I should make a video critique of this fellow and his false arguments.
Wow, November was really good? I loved making the video reel for the month because there were such great times. And while I do struggle with the sun disappearing so soon everyday, I think that over all, it was a lovely, lovely month. I’m in love with the music i paired with this highlight reel because it just perfectly matched the mood for November.
I went to my very first concert – the Jonas Brothers Happiness Begins Tour! Oh my goodness, it was SO FUN and i was rather hoarse from screaming for three hours or so. Also, Bebe Rexha performed for the pre show and I’m a new Bebe Rexha fan.
Frozen 2, y’all!!! So incredibly moving and powerful. I cried throughout the whole film and still cry listening to the soundtrack. The whole musical score is beautiful, though I prefer Anna and Elsa’s songs. Nothing against Kristoff and Olaf but this story just really belongs to the sisters.
My Top songs – Show Yourself and The Next Right Thing. You are the one you’ve been waiting for all of your life, cue the tears.
Food and Wine Festival ended but I had ONE final festival day before all the yummy food went away. But I learned there’s festival of the holidays??? So i’ll be checking that one out in December. Along with the Candlelight processional.
And before I forget, Disney Plus and AppleTV+!!! The Morning Show and The Mandalorian have become my new favorite parts of Fridays. And Baby Yoda, so cute! Yes, I’m squealing because he just get’s cuter every episode. How is that possible???
Also due to Disney Plus I finally, finally watched the original Star Wars trilogy. And while it was meh at moments, about halfway through A New Hope I actually started to fall for the farm boy narrative.
Then by the end of Return of the Jedi, I was just in tears. The montage of everyone celebrating the fall of the Empire??? Moving.
And now that I’ve seen Star Wars, I have a new favorite meme combining Disney and Star Wars.
Also as part of my life and moving into 2020, I’m putting together a best of the 2010’s series. Best songs and albums. Biggest disappointments. Best movies and Books. I think it’ll be a youtube video series, so check out my channel and subscribe if you haven’t yet. Shameless plug.
Alrighty folks, that about sums up my November! Now it’s time to plan those endless end of year posts. Also, I need to read 25 books to hit my goodreads goal. Opps. I’m kind of behind.
And I mentioned editing at the very beginning of this post? because i did do some book editing! it was fun. I also hit 32,000 words on my latest book draft. Which means I wrote around 15,000 words this month. Not nanowrimo style goals, but I did some writing. Which is what matters, right?
And now, let me go hunt down 25 books to read.
How was your November? are you feeling great about the end of the year or just ignoring December? Suggestions for the 25 books I apparently need to read???
Have you seen the new Frozen? What did you think? Do you have Disney Plus? Or Apple TV+? Any plans to see the new Star Wars movie this month?
