Has it been a while since I chatted about my WIP? Um, very much yes. Basically, because I’ve been querying and not editing, and it’s hard to think about the book. Other than as a typed 12-point-font letter I’m sending off to agents.
Also, querying can take over your life. It’s brutal. And I’m barely started. Eeeekkkkk.
So let’s think of something happy! My WIP! But in GIF form. Hopefully you will smile and laugh. And want to read my book even more, right?
– Thank the person who tagged you. Thanks to Savannah @ The Book Prophet for letting me steal this tag from her!
– Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!) and link back to this post so she can find out allll about your WIPs!
– Try to limit the amount of gifs you use per question – I’d say maybe stick to five or less but I’m not the boss of you
Sum up your WIP in four gifs!
Well, here goes…
Hearts of Clay and Tempest is an Irish Folk retelling of the original Hans Christian Anderson A Little Mermaid. With fighting and magic and lots of ocean. Also, redheads. Need I say more?
Oh, and here’s a great article outlining some of the key differences between the Disney Mermaid story and the original. Personally, I think the original is a whole lot more fun to work with, but that’s just me. (And maybe my dark heart? Who knows?)
Time to introduce your main characters!
Darcy is my precious main character. And she doesn’t want to be the main character. She just wants to escape the ocean and live in a quiet cottage far away from the sea.
But, muwhawahaha, that’s not what happens.
Also, I love her name. Because Darcy is a very traditional Irish girl’s name, and she deserves this beautiful, strong name.
I AM SO THANKFUL for POLDARK and all the gifs I now have for Brendan. This show has been so helpful.
So, now about Brendan.
He’s a bit brooding. Fiercely loyal. Devoted to serving his country and Queen.
Brendan loves his family’s country estate but he is forced to live at Court. He hates courts dances and balls and all things fancy, btw. And Brendan has no idea how to deal with flirting. At all.
Also, Brendan gets in a lot of arguments with his dad, who happens to be a super important General. Not the best relationship.
Do you know how hard it is to find gifs of blonde fae guys that aren’t Legolas? Next to impossible. So it’s a good thing that Legolas worked out sometimes.
Super extroverted. Younger brother.
Quick on his feet. Hardly ever stops to think.
Flavian is incredibly fun to write. Probably because he’s not trying to be good like Brendan, or extra Gyrffindor like Darcy.
And his family is exiled from the Fae Court, so Flavian is fighting to win his own place in the world. And of course, he is probably better than everyone else. The very basic Slytherin.
So he is a prince. And a precious darling. it’s hard to describe Edric without giving away spoilers? But I’ll try.
He’s an only child. And an introvert. And he’s supposed to be the king but ruling people is not his idea of happiness.
Loves to take long walks through the woods, alone. Is this a good idea?
Has practiced music for as long as he can remember. He can sing quite well and play the bombard (a traditional Celtic instrument)
Edric also whittles and has a collection of carvings. He’s my sweet little Hufflepuff, ok? Much love for Edric.
How would your main character react in a crisis?
Darcy is willing to fight, to shout, to slap a few heads together. but she also has to think about it. Not too much. But she needs to know all her options.
This is Brendan in every crisis. Won’t ever break the rules. Always obey the Queen. Save your friends. And he thinks everything should work out. Poor loyal soul.
Why think about it when you can just stab, stab, stab and solve all the problems?
This is how Edric sees himself.
This is how Edric actually looks. The problems still might not be getting solved.
If you were to meet your main characters, how would you react?
And if you were to meet your antagonist?
I would definitely be channeling my inner Molly Weasley to take down the evil douchebags in this story.
Is there any romance in your WIP? How would you sum it up in gifs?
So, this book is not romance themed. There are characters in committed relationships, and that plays a major role in the characters lives. But it’s not about people falling in love and happiness.
But trust me, the darling cinnamon roll relationships are very precious.
When this book starts, there’s only one relationship? At the end, there might be a second one, but it’s only hinted at. Maybe, if there’s a sequel, we’ll see more!
How do other characters feel about this ship?
It’s very much a mix of these two gifs.
How do you want people to react to reading your WIP?
Maybe I’m evil, but this is how I see things working out? Everything doesn’t work out completely nicely for ALL the characters in the end. but that’s how life works, right? And there might be a sequel, but I’m not absolutely 100% certain about that yet.

Oh, and before I forget, let me tag some folks! Or you can be like me and just steal tags away. It works, right?
I tag...(I think all of you guys have a WIP?)
Isn’t this the best tag? Which character do you think you’ll relate to the most? Have you seen Poldark?
Are you working on a WIP? What is it about? If you do this tag, be sure to send it to me, so I can check out your post!
