It’s Almost Over! November ’18 Wrap Up

Whelp, November is basically done. Which means, I need to line up what happened this month and talk about it! Gah, this is hard to do for this month! Mainly, because as you shall see, it was a HARD month.

I think this is the first time I’ve ever started writing a monthly wrap up and felt kind of dreadful about it? Normally, I love chatting about how life has gone. But this month was just rough. Definitely far from perfect.

And I know, believe me, I know, life is never perfect. But knowing life shouldn’t be perfect and realizing how not perfect everything really is, it’s just hard living a messy life.

Okay, now that I’ve said all these kind of sad, real thoughts, let’s talk about November.

You may look at this list of books and think, wow, Liz, you read a lot this month! And yes, I read quite a bit. But I actually only read all these books because of thanksgiving break. I read five books during thanksgiving break. Five books in four days. It was a lot 😂

Monday’s Not Coming – Goodness, this was a hard, entangling read. I honestly have no idea how to describe this book. You just have to read it.

The Star-Touched Queen – I LOVED this book. It’s Indian inspired fantasy and I absorbed this incredible story.

Americanized – What a memoir! I didn’t know this was a memoir until I started reading this true book and it’s so good!

Darius the Great is Not Okay – One of my favorite reads, ever. It’s slow and good and deals with depression and fat shaming and family relationships.

Girls of Paper and Fire – Everyone’s been raving about this book and I’m going to join the hype, because it is that GOOD.

The Nightingale – my roommate’s mom gave me this book because she thought I would like it. And SURE ENOUGH, I read it in one sitting. It was amazing.

Dumplin’ – I could literally feel the Texanness of this story. It felt like I was reading about my hometown, haha. I wanted to read it before the Netflix film and I’m so glad I did.

Magnus Chase: The Sword of Summer – Another stellar Rick Riordan story and I’m already delving into the next book.

Elise talks about diverse fantasy rep and I am here for this!

Kate @ All the Trinkets talks about what to do when you have ZERO inspiration to write, and I LOVE it!

Savanah talks about her feelings on celebrating thanksgiving, and I think her thoughts are so important! Especially if you’re an American, it’s important to listen to Native voices and their perspective on this holiday.

Amber chats about things she’d like to see in books, and I just want to send her list to all the publishers. Please, let’s write and publish these stories.

I wasn’t that active blogging this month, I think I only published a post maybe once a week. But that’s okay, because I knew I was going to be far too busy to keep up with blogging on top of school.

I just looked, and apparently I published 7 posts this month? That’s more than I realized, haha.

Also, I finally reached over 200 blog subscribers! This was cool and very happy news. 🥰
This month had a lot of highs and lows. I didn’t post on the blog so much because I was incredibly busy and taking a semi-hiatus.
And then school was a mess, and I really don’t want to talk about that too much. But my mental health really struggled this month, and all around, most of the month was low-key terrible. I went two weeks without reading or writing much of anything and even waking up was a struggle.

And after all that struggle, there was fantastic thanksgiving break. But before I could even get to break, my dear grandmother passed away, and losing her was very hard.
But break happened, and that was nice! A chance to breathe and just feel refreshed.

Roomie and I over thanksgiving break

And I cut my hair! Finally! I just needed a haircut and it feels so good! And then today, while I’m writing this, I spent time at the doctors because of pain issues. And so the day was not going so great, but it ended with an internship offer from a local news station. Better ending. 😊

Oh, and I made a pretty fun election night vlog! If you like anything at all to do with politics, or just watching fun youtube videos, check it out.

November was Nano month! I wrote quiet a bit this month, and I believe, my current story is really growing. I wasn’t sure if I would actually finish it this month, and I didn’t. Not a real surprise.

This is my current Nano life

But I’m planning on finishing it in December. I always write a ton during finals week. Stress helps me write more. Weird, I know.

I could include snippets, but I just don’t think anything works for a blog snipper right now???

CHRISTMAS is almost here. And 2019!!!! I am so excited for the new year. So excited. And I’m planning on ending the year fantastically.

But what exactly does ending the year fantastically mean? Well, let’s chat.

Read some books! I’m excited for my December TBR. I’m very excited to film my booktube video for my tar + writing a TBR post.

Finnish a major writing project! As I mentioned in my writing section, I’m almost done with my current WIP. Ending the year with two finished drafts is so great!!!

Seeing family. I know some people are super family oriented, and see their family all the time. I live pretty far away from my fam and since moving to college, this hasn’t bothered me too much.

But in the last year, I’ve only seen my parents maybe ten days total. and I haven’t seen my siblings and adorable nieces AT ALL. So, during  this holiday season, I’m planning on hopefully seeing my siblings and parents.

Applying to Grad school! I’m not really super sure that I want to go to grad school. but I’m going to apply to a couple of programs and we’ll see what happens!

lets chat

Anyone else glad to done with November? Any favorite holiday things happening? Does anyone love looking at Christmas lights? I just love driving around and looking at lights. It’s probably my fav holiday tradition.

How did you guys do with Nano? Are you happy with the writing you were able to get done? Are you going to keep writing the rest of the year?

I’m sorry that you’ve had a tough month. I hope December will be better for you!

We love driving around to check out Christmas lights! Several households in our areas go all-out, and it’s incredible to see those every year. We are going to put up our Christmas tree this weekend. Thanksgiving was really nice – We spent time with my parents and several family friends. Plus, Al and I had Thursday and Friday off!

For December, we’re kicking it off with Al’s co-worker’s wedding on Saturday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s Mantime Friendsgiving, Al’s company holiday party the following week, reading lots of books, attempting to seriously de-cluttering the house and garages, and Al will get some much-needed time off at the end of the month. Not exactly sure what our plans are for Christmas yet, but I know I will be at church running the computer and projectors for at least one service between December 23rd and Christmas Eve. I’m fairly certain it’s going to be BUSY!

    And yay for grad school!!

You’ve read some great books this month though, that’s amazing! I really want to read Darius, it sounds like such a great book.I also need to get to Girls of Paper and Fire someday, everyone has been raving about it for so long!
I hope you’ll get to finish your draft this year, best of luck for your writing ❤

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my grandmother back in September, so if you need to talk I’m always here for you.
November has been a hard month for me too. A lot of life decisions are happening and NaNo… Well, NaNo didn’t go great. I’ve been holding steady at 28,000 words for over a week now. I do plan on finishing, but not at the speed of NaNo.
I hope your December turns out better! Good luck with applying to grad school! 🙂

Thank you, Jenn. I’m sorry November’s been hard and I totally understand about Nano. I’m definitely going to finish my WIP even if Nano is over!

First off, I’m sorry about your grandmother that must be really hard. Sending my love <3 You read quite a bit and wrote quite a bit considering how bad you said your mental health was. Plus 200 followers!!! I'm insanely proud of you! You're probably one of the most hardworking people I know of and you constantly give me motivation when I see you on Instagram. I entered my email in your subscribe box again (for the third time i think?) hopefully it works this time and i get emails about your posts hahaha. Thank you for sharing my post <3

Thank you! Reading tends to help my mind destress, so sometimes I read more when I’m super stressed. Kind of weird, because it makes me more stressed about getting everything done but I NEED to read to destress, haha!

I’m hoping to create an email subscription list in early January for a monthly email update, so I’ll be putting all my subscribers into a non-wordpress email list. Maybe that will fix this! Otherwise, I’m kind of clueless 😂

Great list. I have heard that The Nightingale is good, but you convinced me to start reading it now asap.

Drop some knowledge!
