My Favorite Fierce Females / Bookish Characters who’ve Inspired Me

It’s Fierce Females February! And I’m supposed to be reading books featuring fierce females, but no one is allowed to ask me how many books I’ve actually read this past week. I’ll do better next week, promise!

Anyway, today I’m sharing about my Favorite Fierce Females from books! It’s so hard to choose just a few, but I have lots of homework, so I obviously can’t spend a full day writing this post. So as much as I might like to write a 5k word post, this is NOT going to be that long. You’re welcome to me and you.

I love some classic females! Especially when the author was writing some revolutionary writing, ahem, Jane Austen. I could basically list all of the Austen heroines, but today, I’ll just stick with my all time fav, Elizabeth Bennet! And yes, the Lizzie Bennet diaries count.

I love Lizzy Bennet because she’s witty, and sociable, and loves to read and make fun of herself. She has a lot of prejudice and strong opinions, but she’s willing to change her mind.

Also, yes the Lizzie Bennet diaries are amazing.

Another of my very favorite classic characters, is Anne Shirley! I mean, what redhead doesn’t totally, absolutely love Anne Shirley. Anne dreams big, loves much, and lives boldly. Life goals.

I love talking about these gals! They’re fierce and terrifying and I admire them all SO MUCH. Also, low-key kind of scared of them too.

Katniss Everdeen was one of the very first YA heroines I ever read. And I loved everything about her story! She was quiet, and determined, and driven by love for her family.

Now, you might know that I’m not too active. I can do some archery. sometimes run a bit, and jump on a trampoline. but I am not a fitness guru. So, this character isn’t the most active fighter, and maybe that’s why I feel the most like her on this list????Hermione Granger is a bookish fighter! She’s so smart and not afraid of anything. Yes, I want to be Hermione when I grow up.

Okay, now that I’ve talked about a bookish fierce fighter, let’s chat about a fierce gal who isn’t exactly bookish. But she’s definitely terrifying. Emma Carstairs! I will never volunteer to hang out with Emma because she scares me. But I mean, she can wield Cortana and totally destroy all her enemies. role model.

Annabeth Chase is also one of my very top favorites and I aspire to be her. but with my math skills, the architect dream is not happening. But still, can Annabeth please adopt me as a Daughter of Athena, too???? Please?

There are so many GREAT contemporary books with amazing gals!

When I sat down to write about my fav contemporary gals, it started getting really hard to just pick a few.

I love Starr’s bravery and voice in the Hate U Give, and Janna’s sarcasm and big heart in Saints and Misfits and Lara Jean’s cookies and dreams in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

I also really loved Jane Sinner and Marin from We Are Okay and Shirin from A Very Large Expanse of Sea. Basically, I love all the gals from all the contemporary books I read.

Whelp, guys, this is my growing list of favorites. Because every other book I read, I discover a new favorite. I mean, that’s great, right?

Also, this post is kind of short. I normally write 1k plus, but my internship + homework has been cramming my free time lately. So, I’m just impressed with myself that I actually wrote this post and published it on time.

lets chat

My first favorite was Hermione. Then, Katniss Everdeen! Ginny Weasley, too. I’ve gained a greater appreciation for classics along the way – Lizzie Bennet, Scout Finch, Lady Macbeth, Jo March, Matilda. Nancy Drew! Also, Lisbeth Salander, and Valentine from Ender’s Game!

I love Ginny Weasley, well, I love ALL the Weasleys. And I really need to read Ender’s Game

Same here! They are an amazing family. Let me know your thoughts on Ender’s Game. I need to re-read it. My first time was in high school for required reading, although I ended up liking it.

Ahh I loved the Lizzie Bennet Diaries! I admit that’s the most Austen I’ve ever consumed haha, but I adored them and the humour was A+. And yesss, all the love for Katniss. She was definitely one of my first fave heroines and introductions into YA. Also Shirin??? I LOVE SHIRIN!!! I only just read that book in the last days of December but it was so. good. Tahereh Mafi can write in any genre and be perfection. 😍

I love this post so much! I also loved how you mentioned Hermione — because I think being fierce doesn’t always mean kicking butt. Lots of brains are fierce too. 🙂 Awesome list! I’m thinking that maybe it’s time I actually read Pride and Prejudice.

Starr is such a strong and fierce character! She’s definitely one of my favorites along with Lara Jean, Dimple, and Twinkle. What an awesome list!
