This is normally when I’d post an August wrap up or something like that, but most of August was an unexpected but kind of needed creative hiatus. So instead of recapping everything I didn’t do in August, let’s talk about books I’m excited to read this fall.
Now, the first half of this post is all about some new fall releases. I could do a whole post all about new books coming out but I’ll just combine that into this post, since I don’t want to overcrowd my TBR with books I probably won’t get to read this year.
And then the second half of this post are some books I’ve had on my TBR for a while (aka, the Dragon Republic) and that I’m looking forward to reading before December. Or before 2020 rolls officially around.
I read the first book in Alex London’s series earlier this summer, and I can’t wait for Red Skies Falling! I just need to know what Kylee is up to. How many people is the crazy big eagle going to kill? And even though he is annoying, Kylee’s twin brother is probably my favorite. Because he’s so normal and basically, if my sister had magical powers and I didn’t, maybe i’d be a sniveling whiner too. Actually I know I’d be a whining mess. So I relate to Brysen on a whole level. Don’t come for my child.
Oh my goodness I am very nervous about Girls of Storm and Shadows! It’s one of my top ten most anticipated reads for 2019, though I’ve heard some mixed reviews from some ARC readers.
But I just really want Lei and Wren to be happy, is that too much to ask???
yes, I’m imagining that my two girls being happy is too much to ask. Because authors like inflicting pain, ugh.
And another in my top three anticipated fall releases, Wayward Son from Rainbow Rowell! Am I ashamed to admit I read way, way too much Simon and Baz fanfiction??? not really.
I’m kind of sure this book is going to be angsty and have a romping unbelievable plot with the best boys in wizarding history. And lots of snogging. It’s going to be perfect.
I think Queen of the Conquered has one of the most beautiful and compelling covers I’ve seen in 2019. Just look at it!!! And not only is this cover gorgeous, the story is taken from Caribbean lore and is about a young girl seeking vengeance against colonizers. Magic + vengeance??? SOUNDS AMAZING
Full Disclosure sounds so intense! I also love the author’s twitter and can’t wait for this book come October! I’ve never read a story about an HIV positive teen and while I’m sure this book is going to move me to tears, I am really looking forward to reading it.
A book about an inquisition against magic and revenge against a prince? Was this written for me??? Incendiary is being compared to an Ember in the Ashes and since I love that series, I’m sure this book is going to be amazing!
Okay, so here are three more fantasy books I just need to read.
A story about prophecy??? And destiny and a lots of secrets. Also, There Will Come a Darkness features five different people setting out on a quest, so I’m already a sucker for this story.
Ahem, aren’t we all a tiny bit in love with Loki. Especially our Marvel hero version (because let’s face it, the actual Norse story of Loki is gruesome and not as lovable as Tom Hiddleston) Anyway, I’m looking forward to reading this Marvel + Norse mythology story featuring Loki.
One of my favorite series in the world is the Lunar Chronicles, so when i heard this series compared to Marissa Meyer’s books, I knew I needed to pick up Tarnished Are the Stars. A story about a tyrant, the Tyrant’s son, a blackmarket agent, and a spy. Okay, I’m hooked.
So, I just found out about this book today, and I’m already haunted by this story. I know it’s going to be a tough read but all of us should read this memoir.
(CW sexual assault) Know my Name is the memoir from the victim known as Emily Doe in the Brock Turner case. Now, Chanel Miller tells her story, and overcoming the public shame and trauma that impacted her life following the assault and the public trial.
Just as I was finishing writing this post today, I saw a news article about this upcoming book. I’m sure I’m going to cry. But I’m also just as sure that I need to read this powerful book.
Books on my TBR that I’m going to Read this Fall. And I really mean that.
I’m in the middle of The Dragon Republic and already I’m LOVING IT! Rin is the morally grey heroine I always need in my life.
I’ve had Archenemies out from the library for a month now and still haven’t read it. So, I’m loosing. Terribly. So, definitely planning on reading this book before the end of September.
Do I have any idea what this book is about??? Noooo, even though it’s been sitting on my nightstand for a while. I’m going to read it before November. I promise.
Also, COOL news! I came home from work and there was a package from Source Fire books which is the first ever box of ARC books I’ve ever received. (WOWOWOWOWOW) anyway, now i have four more books on my fall tbr, and I look forward to reviewing these books soon! also, psa that these books are very thinly printed which means they are perfect for take to work in my lunch bag kind of books. Which, in case you were wondering, The Dragon Republic is not a take in the bag to work kind of book.
What fall books are you excited about? How is your TBR pile coming along for 2019? Have you ever been temped to just delete the entire TBR pile and just start from scratch with no books on the TBR stack???
