New Year, New Reading Goals! / My 2019 Reading Ideas

HELLO NEW YEAR! Hello new me, well, not totally new me. But new reading goals!!!! YAY, YAY, YAY!!! I’m honestly so excited for 2019 and ALL the reading and writing this is going to happen this year!!! So excited!

And to start of the year completely right, I’m sharing my 2019 Reading Goals! I love Goodreads and my reading challenge, and I also love planning out books to read for the year, as well!

Will I share a personal goals post??? Maybe, who knows.

Fantasy Reads

This year, I definitely want to tackle ALL of Rick Riordan’s series. This means finally finishing up the Trials of Apollo and Magnus Chase books, and hitting the Red Pyramid series. I love Rick Riordan so much, and I know I’ll love rereading the Heroes of Olympus. But I don’t want to reread any of his books till I’ve read all of his writing. So, before I can enjoy a reread, I need to finish all the books.

Speaking of finishing, I also really want to get to VE Schwab’s books. I haven’t touched Vicious/Vengeful, and I’d really like to try those books out!

And for book reviewing purposes, I really want to read The Mortal Instruments and Throne of Glass. I’m kind of meh about both of those series, but I want to review them. So, I’m going to hopefully read City of Bones and The Assassin’s Blade in February.

I also want to read more diverse fantasy in 2019! Some diverse fantasy that I want to read includes:

► Empress of All Seasons

► Shadow of the Fox

► Dread Nation

A ton of fantasy reads! I love reading and writing fantasy, so I’m glad that fantasy reads never seem to run out, haha.

More Non-Fiction

I’d also really like to read more non-fiction. It would be fantastic to read one thoughtful non fiction book a month. This year, I originally planned that, but never picked out non-fiction books to read. This year, I’m planning on reading some specific non-fiction books. All thanks to Barack Obama’s Reading List!!! So many ideas! I added 6 non-fiction books from his reading list to my TBR. And I’m very excited to check them out!

Some other non-fiction books I’m interested in:

► Quiet the Power of Introverts in A World that Can’t Stop Talking

► Citizens of London: The Americans who Stood with Britain in its Darkest, Finest Hour

► Edith Kermit Roosevelt: Portrait of a First Lady

Literary Fiction

I’m really terrible at reading adult fiction. But I’m determined to try to read a few adult fiction books this year. Not too many. Maybe six at most.

Some adult fiction books I’m eyeing:

► An American Marriage

► The Tattooist of Aushwitz

And, that’s it? I honestly don’t know when adult books are released and what books might be good reads! I seriously need to research about more of these books, haha.

New Releases

Of course, the most exciting planned reading category are new releases!!! There are so many fantastic new releases coming out next year, I can’t wait to read them all!

I mean, there are already six amazing titles being released in January. And don’t even get me started on the dozen titles in May!!! How can they cram so many new releases in one month? I’m not even sure what’s coming out in the fall, but between now and June 1st, I have 30 book titles that I’m watching!!! WOW!

I’ll probably be writing a seasonal new releases post soon, so wait a few days and that should be posted!

I love reading new releases as they’re published, because even though I’m terrible at writing book reviews, it’s so fun to watch the community chatter about new books and sometimes even participate, haha. I’m super hoping that I’m better this year at actually talking about new releases and publishing book reviews on time.

Well, that’s all my reading goals??? More literary fiction, non-fiction, and fantasy reads! Also, more diverse fantasy reads.
And then, there’s my Goodreads goal. 120 books! I’d like to aim for 12 books a month, or around 3 books a week. That way, I should get close to 120 reads this year.

lets chat

Are you excited for 2019? What books do you want to read this year? Are you participating in the Goodreads challenge? Is there a genre you want to read more of this year? What books are you most excited about?

Happy new year, Elizabeth! Ahh, your enthusiasm for the new year at the beginning of this post got me feeling even more excited for 2019. 🙂
I hope you get to read all of Rick Riordan’s books! I read the Kane Chronicles and really liked them (not as much as PJ, of course, though) and I’ve read the first book in both Magnus Chase and Trials of Apollo, but haven’t finished either series. I really should do that, too…
I want to read more nonfiction too! That’s a goal I should add to my list. XD Good luck with all your goals!

I also need to catch up on Trials of Apollo and Magnus Chase! I’m not a fan of Norse mythology, so I just kind of put off the MC books and now I’m behind on the ToA books too. And The Red Pyramid is so good – especially the last two books!

I read the first Magnus Chase book and it was SO GOOD!!! I’m definitely looking forward to reading the Red Pyramid books!

I want to do a bunch of re-reads this year, as well as gather and review more than two ARCs. I’ve heard really good things about Brandon Sanderson, so it was recommended that I start with his Mistborn trilogy. Off to the library I go!

All my Sanderson friends say to start with the Mistborn trilogy, and I’m very excited to read them!

Happy new year!! I hope you love all of Rick’s books! I sure do and I’m still contemplating whether or not I should reread the Heroes of Olympus series (since I’m planning many other rereads haha). And I hope you get around to reading 120 books! Sounds very ambitious but we’re all cheering you on <3

Best of luck for all of your reading goals and for your reading challenge, too! 🙂 There are so many good looking releases this year, I can’t wait to read all of them haha. I also will need way more time to get through them all and money to get them all, too, haha 🙂 Happy new year and happy reading!! <3
