Summer has officially started! Though all it seems to be doing is rain, rain, rain. And more rain. Can you tell it’s been raining A LOT?
Do I mind the rain? Maybe a smidge.
my face at the rain.
But school is done, and I’ve slept a lot and cleared my brain of French homework and finals stress. Also, work training starting happening. So in-between reading, and sleeping, and starting work, May has been very, very busy.
First, I didn’t read as many books this month. Several of the books I read were mega-long. Winter was over 800 pages! It took me 5 days to read it!
And then several of the books I read were just…actually horrible. I did read a few good book; Winter & Circe. Great books. But several of the books I read were just super bad and gave me a horrible reading feeling. (Especially Ship It. It’s just a very bad book)
And I’m actually currently reading They Both Die at the End & the Raven Boys. but since May is officially over Thursday, I should have them done by the end of the month. Especially since the Adam Silvera book is due back at the library. Sadness = they won’t let me renew more than 3 times.
May has been my Query Month. As in, I’m researching tons and tons of agents and I’ve started writing lots of query letters.
Pros of writing query letters
➤ A daily reminder you finished writing a book.
➤ Maybe getting an agent?
➤ Talking about your book to random strangers
Cons of querying
➤ Never hearing back
➤ A lot of emotional energy
➤ So much work and research
➤ Very little room to be creative and actually write
As you can see, querying is a ton of work. Super emotionally exhausting. Completely saps creativity. At least, for me.

I talked so much about my opinions this month! Which is ALWAYS fun and popular. It’s great when you can write about something that’s super easy and fun to talk about and people enjoy it. (kind of like writing a book, maybe? Depends on the book, ha!)
Speaking of books, I chatted about my WIP. Which was a great relief from writing queries. And helped me get back into a creative mood. Because I even started writing a prequel
Also, random search info. Someone searched Harry Potter characters and landed on my blog? THIS IS COOL!
And people keep searching for info about Mike Duncan’s book on Lafayette and landing on my blog? Inner Lafayette fangirl is very happy.
Now for official numbers…

I officially started a Booktube channel! I’m only posting about once a week, since it’s a ton of work. Also, if you’re asking, Elizabeth, are you doing all this at the same time? Writing, blogging, reading & booktube?
The answer, pretty much. It’s not overwhelming right now, so long as it stays that way, life is good!
Also, feel very free to subscribe to my youtube channel. It’s going to be fun!
I’ve also discovered Madame Secretary on Netflix and I’m in love??? Where has this show been? I’m so happy all the seasons are on Netflix, I’m almost done with season 1. NO SPOILERS ALLOWED.
Apparently, I have Blake like superpowers of finding time to do everything.
Oh, I did watch Infinity War. And it killed me. And I was able to watch Black Panther again when it came out on DVD. That helped my Infinity War heartbreak.
My TBR is ALL OVER THE MAP. I keep picking up books at the library and that kind of ruins my TBR because they’re never the books I meant to start reading???
Renegades – I’ve heard really mixed things about this Marissa Meyer book. Yes, The Lunar Chronicles started out very slow and this is supposed to be mega slow, too? But the sequel was just announced and I can’t resist trying it out.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – I’ve grabbed the ENTIRE series from the library and I’m looking forward to my buddy read! And it’s 3 whole books, but they’re all nice and short.
Queens of Geek – Do I have any idea what this book is about? NOPE. But the pink cover is enough to scream, read me!
Royal Bastards – Is this about kids who are nothing becoming something? Maybe doing something sword-fighting and epic? Maybe? I don’t really know but I’m looking forward to checking it out.
The Poppy War – This book is brand new and I just heard about it. Heavy themes and graphic content, but I’ve heard AMAZING things. But when I’m talking graphic, I’m talking REALLY bad. As in, this book is based of the Rape of Nanjing, so it’s horrendous violence and war theme.
A Reaper at the Gates – RELEASE DAY IS SO SOON! And I am heading to the store on June 12th to pick it up because I am addicted and need this book immediately!!!
The Romanov Empress – I am a huge fan of imperial Russian history and the Romanovs have always fascinated me. I’m thrilled to check out this ARC.
A THIRD SIX OF CROWS BOOK? Leigh just dropped this amazing new information on Sunday and the book world is now aglow with rainbows and happiness! I am ecstatic. Just so excited! though her disclaimer about many years down the line makes me nervous.
This is VERY exciting. I need a book about Kaz and Inej on her pirate ship. Just more happiness.
Reaper at the Gates comes out in less than 2 weeks and I CANNOT WAIT! I know you probably haven’t heard me mention this book at all, but I am very eager for the cruel torture that is Sabaa Tahir’s writing.
How was your May? Are you officially on summer break? Is it pouring buckets of rain at your place?
Are you excited for a possible third Six of Crows book? Isn’t this the best news?
Are you prepared for A Reaper at the Gates?
