September was full of reading Darth Vader’s wiki page and trying to figure out how I could join the resistance. At least, that’s what happens when you work in a galaxy far, far away for six days of the week. (It’s a lot of Star Wars time!)
That said, I did get way behind on blogging and creating due to the crazy work schedule. It was a month of 4am work shifts and that just leaves a person super exhausted ALL the time. But there’s hope! Because even though i am still getting a few very early morning shifts, my schedule is starting to become much more manageable. And manageable means I’m not drop dead tired ALL THE TIME. yay.
Screen Queens ⭐️ – Ugh, what a disappointment! It is hard for me to describe how massively excited i was for this book and how tremendously it let me down.
Tell Me How You Really Feel ⭐️⭐️ – I wanted to just enjoy this but the main characters were just not that likable. Yay for the representation not so much yay for prickly personalities.
Internment ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – After two very meh reads, Internment was just perfect! Yes, it wasn’t easy and had gut punching moments. BUT SO GOOD.
Wayward Son ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – my heart is very twisted and anxious for my two precious boys after finishing this treasure. Please let’s have the third book quickly.
Waiting for Tom Hanks ⭐️⭐️ – Um, cute? But very weird at times. Still, it was pretty cute.
Alrighty, this month has been all about editing! We love editing. Actually, I really do, this is not sarcastic. So far, this is fun and I’m learning a ton about my own story and characters.
My process is basically this:
► Print out the book. That’s 270 pages.
► Read a bit. Scribble in notes.
► Make some snacks. This is very important.
► Read some more. Suddenly, you have a random question about a specific detail.
► Google said detail. Spend 45 minutes reading random stuff.
► Try to scribble in notes about the googled detail. Realize this is now a massive plot tangle and oh boy, wow. This is a mess.
Yeah, writing and especially editing can feel circular. And sometimes, I’ve run into some weird self-doubt moments, but you just keep editing. The book work is happening.
I’ll go ahead and wrap up this super short wrap up, by acknowledging that I didn’t blog hop this past month much AT ALL. I read a lot of political news though? Maybe my life would be happier if I read more book blogs than random New York Times and Vox articles. (not really random but you know)
I’ve been meaning to get my hair cut for forever but it has just not happened and that’s a metaphor for my entire life right now. because I went a few days absolutely HATING my longer grown out hair but now I’m like, whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And while work has been crazy, I do really love my job. It’s been stretching and can definitely be stressful, but overall, it’s the best.
While you might be thinking, Elizabeth, it sounds like you had no spare time this last month, well, you’d be right. Still, I managed to help a new friend with an intense investigative project and wrote my first Medium post on the event. (tw: conversion therapy)
So, yeah, that was my month. It was crazy from the beginning to the very end, and I think I still feel terribly behind on it all. But true self care is spending a few days to rest and reset for October, so stay tunes because COOL things happening!
How was your September? are you a fan of short and sweet romantic reads? What’s your favorite book to read when you’re super busy?
