So Many Gorgeous Books!!! / Summer 2019 Book Releases

Y’all I’m kind of proud to actually publish this post! I’ve been working on it for a while, since it takes a long time to write these kind of posts. There’s lots of RESEARCH and I dig through Goodreads looking up new book releases. hip, hip, hoorah. Because these books all look AMAZING.Β

And I’m including May’s releases, since May is pretty summery to me! (and there’s so many May books!!!)Β Also, I don’t have these listed in date order, just monthly lists. 😊 And I read YA and Adult, so there’s a mix of both genres, though it’s 85% YA.

Again But Better – I CAN’T WAIT for this beautiful book. I mean, the cover is one of my absolute favorites of 2019. And it’s a college YA story and that’s my jam. (maybe not anymore??? I just graduated college??? crisis, flailing commences)

Somewhere Only We Know – Isn’t this cover adorable??? It simply screams cute and summery and i love the sweater???

This is Not a Love Scene – A senior film project? maybe a romance? and a main character with muscular dystrophy? wow, I can’t wait to pick this up!

I Wish You All the Best – I am so excited for this debut! Mason has poured their heart into this book and I’m like a million percent sure this story is going to make me all teary eyed. Props to summer reads that make me cry.

Red, White, and Royal Blue – YES, YES, YES!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on this book and take all the Red, White and Royal Blue beach pics!!!

The Lost Coast – Queer witches??? Instantly hooked.

The Candle and the Flame – This looks like such a gorgeous fantasy! It’s a story about the importance of names and fierce women and magic??? MY JAM

Don’t Date Rosa Santos – Okay, this story is set in Florida, and i’m moving to Florida for the summer, so I feel like this story is very perfectly timed. It also sounds so cute??? and full of important family ties and summer vibes.

With the Fire on High – I can’t wait for Elizabeth Acevedo’s second book!!! (is it spoken word poetry, too? I don’t know, opps)

Kings, Queens and In-Betweens – a story about drag queens and unrequited love??? sign me up!

Let Me Hear a Rhyme – OH THIS SOUNDS AMAZING!!! I loved Tiffany D. Jackson’s other books and I feel like this is going to be fantastic. Also the cover??? 10/10

Stronger than a Bronze Dragon – This sounds so intense and like such a unique, Chinese inspired fantasy???

The Beholder – I’m not sure exactly how I feel about this??? (why does she have to go to Europe to get a suitor??? call me confused)

Tell Me How You Really Feel – JUST LOOK AT THAT COVER! my femme gay heart is happy

Spin the Dawn – Project Runway meets Mulan —- this instantly hooked me in!!! I mean, the synopsis plus the cover is just perfection!

Screen Queens –Β  THE BOLD TYPE pitched in a book! This story was written for me! (And yes, I’m super salty that edelweiss denied my request for the ARC)

Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune – This is set in San Francisco’s Chinatown??? And is about a chef??? I am already in love and I’m going to get so hungry eating this.

If It Makes You Happy – This cover is so cute??? Also I am a fan of the synopsis! A fat girl fighting back against prejudice and pressure and just THRIVING.

Waiting for Tom Hanks – Whoever designed this cover has a soul made of butterflies and rainbows!!! also, it’s an adult rom-com story and I need it right now.

Like a Love Story – Everything about this cover makes me WANT to read this book RIGHT NOW! Set in 1989, during the height of the aids crisis, i’m 99.99999% sure this book is going to make me cry.

I Wanna Be Where You Are – A road trip story??? YES, PLEASE!!!

All of Us with Wings – A debut fantasy set in San Francisco??? Sign me up!!! And just the idea of a governess and her kiddo accidentally summoning magic sounds SO FUN!

Queen of Ruin – I’ve read the first book in this series, and yes, I want to pick up the second book!

Wilder Girls – queer horror??? This is apparently kind of like Lord of the Flies, only better and gayer.

Soul of Stars – I’ve been anticipating this book for months! i loved Heart of Iron and I am so excited to see how this duology ends!

Shatter the Sky – This fantasy sounds so INTENSE and amazing! A dragon training apprentice? A kidnapped girlfriend? Prophecies and rebellion? CAN I READ THIS RIGHT NOW???

Storm and Fury – A girl going blind who can communicate with ghosts? Fighting demons??? SOUNDS INCREDIBLE!

Ever Alice – Alice is on a mission to kill the Queen of Hearts??? the retelling I always wanted.

How the Light Gets In – This cover feels pulled directly from instagram and I’m here for it. Also, it sounds like this story deals with some hard topics and will probably make me cry.

The Dragon Republic – This is on my top ten 2019 anticipated releases, and i know it’s going to be heart-rending and action filled!

House of Salt and Sorrows – Curses and dancing and mystery??? EEEK! It sounds so good!

Here There are Monsters – this cover honestly scares me. It looks like it will stab me. But it’s a story of sisters and family SO! something I need to read.

The Downstairs Girl – A girl masquerading as a maid but really writing a satirical, on point newspaper column??? i am in love 😍

Color Me In – a debut novel about family and friendship and religious intolerance??? We NEED this book!!!

The Revolution of Birdie Randolph – A teenage girl yearning to spread her wings? PLEASE, this sounds amazing!

I KNOW I must have missed some new books on this list. How can there be so many lovely books coming out in one summer??? I feel blessed to be alive right now. Wow.

Again, But Better and With the Fire on High are already on my to be read list! I LOVE Let Me Hear A Rhyme’s cover. Ahhh, The Downstairs Girl is by Stacey Lee! Have you read any of her other books (Under a Painted Sky, Outrun the Moon, The Secret of a Heart Note)? I just realized that I’ve actually read all her books so far which is very surprising. I think I liked the first two better than the third one.
