The World on Pause

I will eventually get back to talking about books (i’m sure) but through the weird time that is now, I wanted to share these snapshots from my downtown.

I’ve been staying home, avoiding people. But I also want to support small businesses, so I went to one of my favorite coffee shops. I bought an iced chai from the take out order only doorway and then walked through downtown.

There’s reminders of the new normal everywhere, but especially in the absolute quiet.

my favorite bookstore is closed, but I walked to it’s normally bustling steps. I’ve tried to take pictures of this building so many times, but normally people walk by and *ruin* the *perfect* shot. I stood around here for normally 20 minutes, the only person on these steps. it was not perfect. I wish someone could walk by and ruin the emptiness.

I came home from downtown, settled with my dog on the couch, and watched the Queen’s speech. And while, I’m not british or anything, the Queen’s words made me tear up.

“This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal.

“We will succeed – and that success will belong to every one of us.

“We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
