You Still Have Time – 18 Things to Do Before Midnight on December 31st

There’s just over 160 hours left in 2018 – I just multiplied a week to get that number. Seven more chaotic days! If you’re hoping to end 2018 on a good note, I have a GREAT list of 18 things to do.

Some take longer than others. And others are shorter. If you want to leave your house, I have some ideas for getting out and about. And of course, if you’re a homebody, there’s definitely some at home things on the list. Ideas for everyone!

1) Watch Nanette on Netflix

Okay, I LOVE this comedy special. It’s a PERFECT mood for 2018.

If you have an hour to just laugh and rage at the world, check out Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette. Also, her accent is lovely.

2) Make an iced latte with your favorite flavors

In my very honest opinions, there’s nothing more relaxing and happy than a flavored iced latte. I LOVE AN ICED VANILLA CHAI LATTE!

If I’m having a HARD day, I’ll grab some ice and chai and voila, instant stress reliever. If the holidays have your life all wack and upside down, try chilling with an iced latte. (and yep, that pun was intentional)

3) Write a thank you note to a friend

I’m not a doctor, but I’ve heard gratitude is REALLY healthy. Like a super healthy, great way to end the year.

If you have a few extra minutes over the holiday, maybe sit down and write a note? Guaranteed to make both you and a friend feel great. 😊

4) Buy a Bouquet of Fresh Flowers

I LOVE fresh flowers. And since Christmas is officially over, maybe there might be a flower sale? Especially on poinsettias? Who knows.

But check out a flower shop and bring home a fresh vase filled with flowers. Brighten up your whole day.

5) Spend an Hour Aimlessly Watching Youtube

It’s no secret that I kind of enjoy watching youtube quite a lot. If you’re not a youtube person, well, I’m sorry. YOu’re missing out on such great content!

While you’re recovering from a very hyper and full Christmas day, maybe check out youtube for a while?

6) Help a Friend’s Youtube Channel

If you’re spending much or any time on youtube, help a friend out! If you spend time on Twitter, you probably have either a mutual or friend who’s a youtuber. If you could watch their channel, subscribe and comment on their content, that would be fantastic!

I mean, you get the best of both worlds – enjoying fun content and helping out a creator!

7) Browse a Bookstore

You know I’m a book blogger, so how could I not include this tip in today’s post? There’s just something incredibly lovely about walking around a bookstore.

New books are cool, and old books are amazing. I am definitely not picky about whether I’m checking out a used store or all new books. Bookstores are just always amazing.

8) Take a Walk Downtown and Window Shop

I know, that not everyone has a downtown. But if you have some sort of block with two-story brick buildings or other tall buildings, try taking a walk downtime.

I love downtowns in the wintertime. Okay, I like downtowns other times of years, too. But winter is special. There’s probably music, and wreaths and pretty decorations. And of course, shops. Lots of shops.

Since I don’t have too much money, I’ve gotten REALLY good at window shopping. Just don’t go into the shop. The last time I went window shopping inside a shop, someone convinced me to buy a $60 dollar wallet. It’s a nice wallet. Even though there’s never any money inside the wallet.

9) Pick out your Favorite Snapchat Filter

Just have some fun and send your favorite snap filter to everyone. Lots of times. I mean, they might get annoyed, but at least you had fun, right?

10) Open the Window & Let your Room Get Totally Filled with FRESH Air

This is my favorite part of the day. When I can get home, open the window, and breathe in some fresh air. In my own room, in my warm pajamas with a cup of warm tea. And my favorite music playing VERY loudly.

I know the air’s cold and all but it’s still absolutely lovely.

11) Give Someone a Hug or a Warm Smile (if you’re not a hugger)

I love warm hugs. Yep, I’m probably related to Olaf. But I’m just a hugger kind of person. You know all those news stories about people giving away free hugs? That would be me.

Now, since everyone isn’t a hugger, share some warm smiles. I mean, the news and the weather and life is just kind of sad. Share some happiness before the end of the year. 😊

12) Brew a Pot of Hot Tea (and of course, post it on Instagram)

Hot pots of tea are the best. And even better when they totally match your instagram theme.

13) Make a List of Things you did in 2018 & Then Check it All Off

It can be really easy to think about all the things you didn’t do in 2018. But that’s not great headspace. Instead, make a list of everything you DID do, write it down, and then CHECK it out!

You’ll feel great! It’s so fun to CHECK THINGS OFF THE LIST. I mean, even Santa makes lists because HE knows they’re FUN!

14) Donate Anything You Didn’t Wear this Year (& probably won’t wear next year, either)

If you’re like me, even just a tiniest bit, you might have a lot of clothes stuffed in your closet or dresser or even in boxes in the attic.

Don’t leave them stuffed away! It’s environmentally conscious and earth-friendly (are those the same phrases just worded differently?)

So be nice to the earth and donate your old things! Also, be sure to shop used if you can 😊

15) Find a Really Noisy Place & Just Scream for a While

Sometimes you just need to scream. but apparently it’s not socially acceptable to scream in the middle of your front yard. Who knew?

So, what I sometimes do, is jump into my car and drive somewhere noisy to scream. Or scream in the laundry room, thank you very much noisy washer and dryers.

16) Block All the News for at Least 24 Hours

Is there anything more depressing than the news? I’m not sure that there is. And I’m a self-professed news nerd. Even though i love knowing everything that’s happening in the world, it can be pretty overwhelming.

Unplugging from all the news for 24 hours is nice. And freeing. Just don’t mention any annoying presidents to me for 24 hours, thank you.

17) Wear Something Glittery & Absolutely Crazy Just for Fun

I’ll admit, my nieces gave me this idea. They all received some halloween costumes for Christmas. They’re adorable. And make me kind of jealous. I want a sparkly princess pink dress with matching troll ears.

Why do adults have to dress so grown up? Can’t we wear something crazy just for fun? Oh, right, that’s what Halloween’s for. Opps. I’m dressing up now.

18) Listen to Your Top 100 Songs of the Year

I almost wrote listen to Ariana Grande for an hour, but maybe some uncultured folks reading this post don’t like Ariana? Hard to imagine but probably true.

Anyway, enjoy your favorite music. Because you can.

Me, staring at a famous big picture like how I’m thinking about 2018

I would like to walk downtown, spend a lot of time on Youtube, and rewatch Nanette, but I actually really need to start working on writing these 2018 recaps.

I’ve made some pie graphs, and have some vague ideas about what I want to say about 2018. But writing a recap post for an entire year is HARD? who knew. I knew. we all knew.

lets chat

What are you planning on doing over the next 160 hours? Anything fun? Any suggestions to add to my list?

If you had to pick one drink to drink this next week, which would it be? Coffee or tea? Or something completely else?

“Spend an hour aimlessly watching Youtube” Ah yes…my specialty 😂 I definitely love the positivity with all these ideas! I absolutely love fresh flowers, and I really hope that I’m able to hit a bookstore before the end of the year (or maybe start my year with a trip to the bookstore)

I love this! I’ve done several of these things over the last week, being basically unplugged from December 21-26 was really nice. I feel happier, more energized, and ready to ring in the New Year!

This is such a fun post! Hm, I think from here until next year, I’ll be watching episodes of the Office, holding my niece(!), writing some blog posts, and working my way through this huge book about the atomic bomb.

Drop some knowledge!
